Crystal Showcase

Div. of MPM

About Crystal Showcase:

From 1965 to 1972, I worked on the geology staff of Ward’s Natural Science. In ‘72 I left and formed Crystal Showcase, with the goal of supplying good quality mineral specimens to collectors at reasonable prices. These were obtained by field collecting and purchasing from worldwide wholesale suppliers. Sales were by mail-order and at local tailgate shows. For a while, I had a full-page ad in Mineralogical Record magazine and set up a sales room at the famous, but now long gone, Desert Inn during the Tucson show.

Over the years, my amount of business varied depending on the requirements of my other employment. I was always happy to help collectors, and even museums, add nice things to their collections, and visiting with my many mineral friends, new and old. Now, I have re-established my website (CrystalSpecimens.com), increasing my web presence and attending more regional shows. I will also be bringing some nice things to the Tucson and Denver shows. I look forward to helping you add nice specimens to your collection.

About Paul Otto

Because you have come to my website, I thought you might like to now some about my background in minerals. When I was about ten, I had an uncle who lived near Franklin, NJ where they find the fluorescent minerals, and an older cousin in the NH pegmatite area. They were both collectors and got me interested and started. In my mid-teens, I joined a mineral club. I started displaying in a couple local shows. During high school, I was awarded a national award from Current Science and Aviation magazine for helping my school organize its collection of rocks and minerals. I took classes at three colleges, including the NM School of Mines. I did quite a bit of field collecting in NM and other places. I got married and did not finish my degree.

From ‘65 to ‘72 I worked at Ward’s Natural Science on the geology dept staff. I continued collecting and became more interested in mineral shows. In ‘72 I started my own business, Crystal Showcase. I started going to the world-famous Tucson Mineral Show in ‘70 and have not missed many years. I also attended other shows. Over the years I have been lucky enough to win seven AFMS national trophies. I am also an AFMS national level mineral specimens display judge. Now that I am fully retired from other work, I have re-activated my website. I look forward to providing you with quality specimens got your collection, and meeting many of you at shows.
